To ‘turn the other cheek’,
Does it signify that we are weak?
Have we interpreted correctly what is meant?
Perhaps we have misunderstood the true intent.
Consider that it is intended to show
How little we regard the blow.
Even when by violence opposed,
The soul within us remains composed.
Does it not rather send an unmistakable sign,
That we stand firm and will not be undermined?
That reserve in the face of violence is strength,
And repayment of evil for evil is regarded with contempt.
